After passing by cotton and tobacco fields, we will reach Tlos, somewhat outlying and visited only by few tourists. Yet, this trip ist worth making solely because of the domimant acropolis situated above the fertile Xanthos Valley.
After the discovery of a bronze ax (2000 B.C.) one can consider Tlos to be one of the oldest and largest of the Lycian settlements.
In 400 B.C. , Tlos belonged to the six greatest cities of the Lycian Union (Xanthos, Patara, Olympos, Myra and Pinara). These were very large cities with up to 200.000 in population.
Different rock-cut tombs stem from this age, whereby the most famous ist the Bellerophon tomb. Here one can still see the relief, where the mythical hero Bellerophone is riding on Pegasus, the winged horse.
This excursions will be carried out solely for our hotel guests through the Phellos Agency and can be booked at our hotel.
